THE COMPLICATED

Originally conceptualized in the summer of 2021, Uncomplicated is a story of growth, change, conflict, resolutions, and ultimately finding balance through the many cycles and layers of life. What began as a short academic attempt at a modern genre soon developed into a deeply layered programmatic work, investigating the nuances of hybridizing organic performance with intensive computer software manipulation to create art at once endearing, yet richly enigmatic. Within, the listener may note three distinct and recurring musical motifs, interacting with each other in a variety of ways as the album progresses. While the individual tracks hold their own tonal characteristics, the interpretation of the motifs is left largely up to the listener. By the end of the album, the listener may observe the cyclical nature of the work, asking to be replayed and re-explored.

THE UNCOMPLICATED

Last summer I took 3 free samples from Slate Digital, slapped an EQ and compressor on it and released "u n c o m p l i c a t e d" on Bandcamp (what is now called "Less Complicated" on this album). Basically, I was just trying to see what those guys on ChilledCow and the like were doing to get their sound. In less than 20 minutes, I had my "track" uploaded to Bandcamp... Unsatisfied with how stupidly simple that was (and how little music I actually performed) I decided to make things More Complicated. Thus, the concept for this ironically un-ironic album was born!

Each of the tracks in this album uses "SD_Melody_Ambivalent_90_C.wav" from the royalty-free Slate Digital HipHop sample pack. There also might be a free drum loop or two, though I can't recall at this point which ones they might be. Other than that, everything you hear on this album was made by moi.
